Not much has improved since my last post with regard to learning the ins and outs and all the features that WordPress has to offer. From what I understand, once familiar with it’s capabilities, WordPress is jam packed with features. In getting started with blogging I choose to use the wordpress hosted blog and had no difficulties. I installed a header graphic, made posts, installed widgets, etc. That being so, I thought, “how different can a self hosted WordPress site be?” Especially since I also put together some beginner websites.
Because you have so much more available to you, the difference is Huge! I was able to install WordPress onto my server without a problem. What I didn’t relaize is that all the extra fancy features that you see other bloggers using are installed separately. Which means, it helps to know a little more than I do about configuring things on the computer. For instance, after installing WordPress on my server, I noticed a message that informs me, “A new version of WordPress is available! Please update now.” The “please update now” is linked so I’m thinking it’s just going to take a click of the mouse - WRONG!
It seems that I have to download and unzip the file and then upload it to my WP file on my server. A 3 step simple installation upgrade they call it. Not for me! I followed the instructions but nothing seemed to happen. I’ve been trying to figure this out now for hours now and am getting no where but frustrated.
I’m sorry to say, but for now I’m going to have to redirect you back to my original blog until I can figure this all out.
I’m sure I can just keep blogging away with out updating to the newer version, but figure I might as well do it right from the get go and take advantage of all the benefits. Besides, if I screw up with any installation problems, I figured at this point I wouldn’t be at risk of losing so much work.
I hope this doesn’t take long for me to learn and in the meantime, please visit my other blog.
